Join the revolution: DISA’s latest Equipment Modernisation Packages put customer machines at the technical leading edge

DISA is helping more customers make serious improvements in capacity, efficiency and functionality – with no need to buy a new moulding machine. The latest DISA Equipment Modernisation Packages (EMPs) extend machine lifetime and improve effectiveness, helping foundries transform the performance, quality and resource utilisation of their existing moulding lines.

Visitors to the DISA section of the Norican Group stand at GIFA (Hall 11, stand A74 – A78) can find out about the latest leading edge innovations compatible with a wide range of installed DISA equipment. Whether it’s cutting scrap, reacting to changing business needs or meeting new legislation and standards, EMPs from DISA and other Norican brands like Wheelabrator deliver maximum gain for minimum cost.

Equipment Modernisation Packages make sure innovation never stops, improving your DISA moulding equipment’s functionality, capacity and efficiency,” says Nina Rasmussen, Vice President, Product Portfolio Development at DISA.

We want our valued customers to benefit from the latest technical advances and, at GIFA 2019, DISA is launching a series of new EMPs that significantly extend our upgrade and retrofit options.

EMPs for higher quality and less scrap

EMPs featuring the Mould Accuracy Controller (MAC) will be a major focus at GIFA 2019, emphasising DISA’s commitment to helping customers achieve Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM). The MAC alerts operators to mould mismatches and gaps – that cause scrap, rework and damaging melt run-through – so they can react to quality issues before the mould is poured. Visitors to the DISA stand can inspect a full-size MAC and test drive the MAC using a DISAMATIC Digital Twin (a digital simulation of a moulding machine).

First released with the DISAMATIC D3 machine, the MAC is now available for the first time to fit many recent DISAMATICs fitted with Automatic Mould Conveyors (AMCs) following intense market demand. GIFA 2019 sees the launch of MAC retrofit options for the DISAMATIC 2013 Mk5 and DISA 130/131/230/231/240/250 models.

Visitors to the DISA section of the Norican stand will have hands-on access to both hardware and digital models so they can understand the power of the MAC to improve quality and cut scrap,” says Rasmussen. “With the MAC and other fresh innovations like the new Monitizer│CIM modules available as EMPs, our existing customers can also benefit from DISA’s ZDM initiatives.

Melt Overflow Covers (MOCs) are another EMP highlight at GIFA, now accessible for DISAMATIC 2013 MK3-5/LP and DISA 130/131/230/231 owners. The simple but ingenious MOC prevents the melt overflow, over-pours and leakages that cover your mould conveyors and thrust bars with iron, causing damage and downtime. The MOC cuts maintenance, improves casting quality and creates a safer, cleaner working environment.

Visitors can inspect the MOC themselves at GIFA,” says Rasmussen. “It’s a straightforward concept but works very well in keeping molten metal safely on top of the mould. MOC can be fitted rapidly and are extremely cost-effective ways to improve equipment reliability and cut unplanned downtime.

Cutting-edge control systems, upgraded thrust bars

Retrofitting modern PLCs is one of the most popular EMP options. If unavailable, obsolete PLC parts can cause serious downtime while the latest PLCs also offer new features and functions that enhance process control, like data gathering, diagnostics, maintenance scheduling and support for remote monitoring. DISA recently announced PLC upgrade kits for the popular DISA 240/250 model, the DISA 230 and 2013 MK5, and the Sand Multi Controller (SMC).

Retrofitting bigger, redesigned thrust bars and a larger pneumatic cylinder is another highly effective EMP option for machines like the DISAMATIC 2013 MK3-5/LP and the DISA 230. This lets the machine grip mouldings extra tight, with more friction giving precise control of mould transport and a stable mould string. That means no more slipping moulds and no gaps for better quality, higher yields and less downtime.

DISA's experts will be on Norican’s stand at GIFA to demonstrate and explain the latest developments and how they can be applied to raise the performance of your installed equipment,” states Rasmussen. “Working with you to understand your specific challenges, our technical team knows exactly which EMPs are possible for your current foundry moulding equipment and where to find the highest ROI.

From extended machine lifetimes and increased profit margins to improved safety and lower noise levels for workers, EMPs are small, cost-effective projects that deliver outsized results. Visit Norican’s GIFA 2019 stand (Hall 11, stand A74 – A78) or contact DISA to find out more about what they can do for you.
