Since the early 1960s, DISA Industries A/S has been world-renowned for advanced foundry systems for the iron and metal industry.
But the company was founded as Dansk Rekylriffel Syndikat - Compagnie Madsen A/S (DRS) in the late 1890s to sell Danish weapons and especially Madsen Machine Guns abroad. DRS started as a consortium, and our knowledge of the early years is limited. but in November 1900, a limited company was founded. This coincided with the culmination of the protracted constitutional struggle that led to the change of government in 1901.
In collaboration with the army and several Danish industrial companies, DRS contributed to arms production and arms trade, which over time became quite extensive, as DRS gained a central position in the development of an extensive Danish arms trade that took place with foreign countries. Initially, most weapons were produced at the army's weapon factories.
The first chapter explores the prolonged period when the company was primarily engaged in the production and sale of Madsen's Machine Gun.
The second chapter of the book explores the activities that were not directly related to DRS's own weapons production, although most of it could be used for military purposes in one way or another. A large part of the activities was about the development of electronics and transportation equipment. In chapter 2, we also write about many NATO projects that DISA participated in.
Chapter 3 explores Vagn Aage Jeppesen’s design and patent for a vertical moulding machine, which DISA bought and subsequently developed and continues to improve, which has revolutionized the foundry industry.
