DYNA-MECHANICAL MOULD COMPACTION

Dynamic mould compaction is characterized by an inverse mould hardness profile with highest values on the pattern which are decreasing toward the back of the mould. The mechanical squeezing is the exact opposite. By combining the two methods the advantages of both can be used.

Compaction with Dynamic Pressure and Squeezing

With this process the mould is produced in two steps. The compaction unit consists of a valve for dynamic pre-compaction (double blow) and a pad for mechanical squeezing. The flexible, resilient pad is made from plastic and protected against damage by a tough cover. As a squeezing tool, this pad is a suitable and reliable component which was provided successful in many applications. The pad inevitably adapts to the contour of the pattern so that the mould is compacted extraordinarily uniform. Moulds for predominantly flat parts can be compacted by squeezing with a flexible pad only.

Advantages of the Dyna-mechanical Compaction

  • High, uniform mould stability
  • ‘Over compaction’ in high pattern parts combined with ‘under compaction’ in areas located next to high parts and the resulting negative features (spring back, less accuracy of parts) can be excluded
  • Higher edge compaction due to the steel frame of the pad
  • Compared to multi-piston squeeze heads, the pad is a simple, cost-saving, and practically maintenance-free compaction tool

The easy setting of the compaction parameters ensures process and production reliability.

Applications

  • Wide range of patterns
  • Large deep and negative pattern parts
  • Large built in green sand cores reaching close to the back of the mould
  • Small distances to the flask walls
  • High mould compaction close to the back of the mould
