Maintenance Tip - Capping Strip Corrosion Problems

DISA 2070 MK1 customer Vermont Castings has shown us a product that has stopped the corrosion between the PMC rail and the capping strip. We believe that it would stop most corrosion problems associated with the placing of dissimilar metals together such as the PMC and AMC capping strips.

This product is called Stainless HCR and is made by CERTANIUM®.

It can be ordered by calling (800) 654-6333. This is a customer service number and they will tell you who to call in your area. If there is no one assigned to your area they will take the order. It comes six cans in a case.

This product should be used every time you remove your caps for inspection. We have found that the caps should be removed at least once a year to check for corrosion and treated with this or a similar product. If not checked and treated the corrosion can build until the bolts start breaking, which could cause the cap to come off.

The product is a powdered stainless steel in an aerosol can. It dries in about five minutes so it can be done with other scheduled maintenance.
