Mtsensk Foundry - Additional Foundry Investments

DISA’s Cooperation with the Mtsensk Foundry
Mtsensk Foundry is situated approximately 300 kilometres south of Moscow.
It is a part of the Oryol Metal Group that incorporates JSC Mtsensk Foundry and JSC Oryol Metals. The companies have a rich history and many years experience of work. The Oryol Metals was started in 1963 as a plant producing secondary non-ferrous metals.
The Mtsensk Foundry, established in 1957, was in the times of the Soviet Union connected to ZIL and its main casting supplying company. ZIL was then best known as producer of the large limousine cars exported to 33 countries, used mainly by the governments of the Soviet Block countries.
At that time ZIL was DISA’s largest single customer, producing castings on 14 DISA moulding lines (out of totally 87 DISA lines sold to the USSR). In 1975 the Mtsensk metal casting plant (then called MZAL) produced over one million tons of aluminium. In 1977 the company produces one million cylinder heads and more than five million engine pistons.
The situation changed in the nineties, when the Soviet Union collapsed and the Mtsensk Non-Ferrous Metals & Alloys became a Joint-Stock company and in 2000 it was transformed into JSC Mtsensk Foundry.
Today Mtsensk Foundry is a modern, dynamically developing enterprise designing new products and technologies, producing own tools and quality control equipment.
However the main products are castings mass produced on five DISA lines: two DISAMATIC machines 2013 installed in 1974, two DISAMATIC machines 2110 installed in 1990 and the New Generation DISA 230-A installed in 2004. These lines produce yearly 30,000 tons of cast iron.
DISA’s cooperation with the Mtsensk Foundry still continues. There is a new large foundry investment on its way. The management group of the foundry headed by Mr Mikhail Okovalkov, Chairman of the Board of Directors, visited DISA’s stand on the yearly foundry fair Litmash 2009 in Moscow that took place 11–15 May.
The management informed us that in spite of the crisis, the planned investment will be carried through within the next months. Mr Kaskov, General Director of the Mtsensk Foundry, handed a specially designed medal of DISA – Mtsensk Strategic Partnership for the next 30 years to the DISA representatives on the Litmash stand.
