DISA SHUTTLE - EXTENDED IN-MOULD COOLING IN RESTRICTED SPACE
Extended in-mould cooling can be a bottle neck for foundries with limited space where extended cooling time either necessitates an expensive building extension or slowing down of the moulding line with consequent significant reduction of output. The DISA Shuttle enables extended cooling time even in restricted space without compromising the cycle time of the machine. Space problems in the foundry are often a question of length rather than width. The DISA Shuttle takes advantage of this by exploiting unused space beside the moulding line to provide an extended cooling option. Integrated with the DISA moulding line The standard DISA Shuttle configuration features two Synchronized Belt Conveyors running side by side. The standard shuttle solution will make it possible to almost double the in-mould cooling time within the same building length without significant production loss. The shuttle also allows flexibility in the production as it makes it possible efficiently to produce different casting with different in-mould cooling times. Depending on in-mould cooling time requirements, the DISA Shuttle can be extended with a further Synchronized Belt Conveyor. 
The two (or three) Synchronized Belt Conveyors are installed on a mobile shuttle wagon that moves perpendicularly to the DISA moulding line. When the first Synchronized Belt Conveyor is filled up with moulds, the shuttle wagon is moved sideways and the second Synchronized Belt Conveyor moves smoothly into its place to receive the following moulds. This procedure is repeated with the Synchronized Belt Conveyors moving from side to side. The DISA Shuttle is completely integrated with the DISA moulding line and synchronized to ensure correct pouring and mould integrity. Smooth and fast operation and PLC control Smooth and fast shuttle movement is of paramount importance in order to preserve mould traceability and minimize moulding line delays as the Synchronizes Belt Conveyors change places. The shuttle is driven by several frequency-controlled drive wheel motors to provide a smooth yet fast relocation of the shuttle wagon with the Synchronized Belt Conveyors and their loads. The DISA Shuttle is integrated with the DISA moulding machine PLC and features a user-friendly operator VDU control panel with selector switches and indicators for easy operation.
