DISA - STRENGTHENING THE TIES WITH INDIA THROUGH R&D

The DISA Group is on a major expansion drive, worldwide. The group has recognized the importance of India’s potential in the global liberalised scenario and has put the global strategy, with a thrust on growing its Indian presence in place.

Providing fresh impetus to growth plans is the group’s new company in Bangalore; DISA TECHNOLOGIES PRIVATE LIMITED (DTPL), a fully fledged R&D facility in India and owned by DISA Holding A/S, Denmark. The current workforce of 10 engineers will during the next 12 months grow up to 25. The R&D Centre is set up in the Peenya Industrial Area, Bangalore and will cater to the development needs of group companies, worldwide.

Currently, high-end machines are supplied and serviced by DISA Denmark. A dedicated parts network, which will be operated by DTPL, will facilitate this. The existing DISA customers in India will immensely benefit by this move, as the parts will be made available in their own backyard.

DISA is the leading player in the niche market of supplying Capital Equipment used in the Foundry Industry and also a worldwide leader within Vertical Sand Moulding Machines – the DISAMATIC Lines.

DISA has for more than 20 years had offices and production facilities in India. Known by the name DISA INDIA LIMITED (DIL), a listed company, it has reported strong performances year after year. End 2003, DIL sales increased three times to Rs.66 Crores in 2006. DISA Holding A/S, Denmark owns 74.3 % of DIL, while the rest is owned by the Indian public.

DIL is an established player in the Indian Market and is synonymous with Quality Foundry Equipment in India. DIL has a range of Sand Moulding Equipment, which cater to different needs in the foundry industry. The range covers ARPA (Jolt-Squeeze Sand Moulding Machines), DISAFLEX Horizontal Flask Lines, Complete Sand Plants and a range of Shot Blasting & Shot Peening Machines.

DIL has two manufacturing units – one in Tumkur and one in Hosakote. The Hosakote unit is DIL’s Clean Air Division and specialises in Design, Manufacture & Supply of DISA Filters, which are used in foundry as well as non-foundry applications.

DIL has a team of committed and highly skilled people, who bring their industry experience and knowledge to its range of operations supporting the foundry and other engineering industries. In line with globalisation and the strong integration drive to create a Global DISA, the Indian team is now looked upon as the major driver for growth of the company worldwide.

The new President & Whole Time Director of DIL, Viraj Naidu – a mechanical Engineer from IIT Kharagpur said,: “The current growth and the likely sustenance of this growth cycle for the next few years in India, augurs very well for DISA. There is a clearly communicated vision to bring DISA’s Indian operations to a major share of the worldwide operations.”

The formation of DTPL is an outcome of this India-focused strategy by the DISA Group. The DTPL operations will initially focus on product improvement, research and development as well as supporting the R&D initiatives from the group companies in Denmark and Switzerland. In the near future, however, there will be focus on increasing the value addition from DTPL by building competencies and then providing engineering support to other DISA operations worldwide.

In line with its stated vision of growing the Indian Operations, DTPL also plans to start manufacturing its new range of DISA products in India for the Global as well as the Indian market.
